What is the better difference between plexiglass and tempered glass?

2023-09-21

If comparison is necessary, plexiglass is better. Tempered glass often causes unexplained self explosion and is very heavy. The difference between plexiglass and tempered glass:

1. Plexiglass is a very lightweight art glass, which is actually a plastic material glass processed in the later stage. Its corrosion resistance, moisture resistance, and sun resistance are quite good, and it also has a certain degree of sound insulation. Tempered glass is often referred to as safety glass. After being damaged by external forces, its fragments will only form small obtuse angle particles resembling honeycomb, which will not cause any harm to the human body.

2. Essentially, plexiglass is a synthetic plastic product, while tempered glass is a product obtained by tempering ordinary glass. The impact strength of tempered glass with the same thickness is 3-5 times that of ordinary glass, and the bending strength is 3-5 times that of ordinary glass. Tempered glass has good thermal stability, can withstand a temperature difference of three times that of ordinary glass, and can withstand temperature changes of 200 ℃.

3. Plexiglass is lightweight, with good toughness, bending resistance, and ease of processing. Its hardness, wear resistance, strength, impact resistance, and transparency are not as good as tempered glass. The disadvantages of tempered glass are that it is heavy and cannot be further processed (such as shaping or opening holes before tempering), as well as its weak point of poor impact resistance on the surrounding side faces, and there is a very small probability of self explosion (self explosion without any warning). The advantages are good strength (even standing and dancing are fine), good wear resistance, high transparency, and non sharp granular shape after fracture.

4. If a resin film is sandwiched between two ordinary glass pieces and subjected to high-temperature and high-pressure treatment, safe bulletproof tempered glass can be manufactured. This type of glass has better strength and will not come off even if it breaks.
